it is logical to use the human brain and its neurons as a reference to model artificial systems, rather than scaling the systems in their current configurations and hoping to see generalized intelligence
Some in the AI community believe that if we make our existing AI models bigger and faster, eventually they will start flying/exhibiting generalized intelligence
Scaling current AI models would have been a logical approach, only if their fundamental building blocks (nodes/neurons) are inherently capable of exhibiting generalized
in a sense we can get a motorcycle to "fly" by building a ramp and launching it into the air. But that’s not sustainable flight, it is a temporary solution based on brute force, not the inherent ability to fly.

Vegan versus meat-based dog food: Guardian-reported indicators of health | PLOS One
Alternative pet foods may offer benefits concerning environmental sustainability and the welfare of animals processed into pet foods. However, some worry these may compromise the welfare of pets. We asked 2,639 dog guardians about one dog living with them, for at least one year. Among 2,596 involved in pet diet decision-making, pet health was a key factor when choosing diets. 2,536 provided information relating to a single dog, fed a conventional meat (1,370 = 54%), raw meat (830 = 33%) or vegan (336 = 13%) diet for at least one year. We examined seven general indicators of ill health: unusual numbers of veterinary visits, medication use, progression onto a therapeutic diet after initial maintenance on a vegan or meat-based diet, guardian opinion and predicted veterinary opinion of health status, percentage of unwell dogs and number of health disorders per unwell dog. Dogs fed conventional diets appeared to fare worse than those fed either of the other two diets. Dogs fed raw meat appeared to fare marginally better than those fed vegan diets. However, there were statistically significant differences in average ages. Dogs fed raw meat were younger, which has been demonstrated to be associated with improved health outcomes. Additionally, non-health related factors may have improved apparent outcomes for dogs fed raw meat, for three of seven general health indicators. We also considered the prevalence of 22 specific health disorders, based on predicted veterinary assessments. Percentages of dogs in each dietary group considered to have suffered from health disorders were 49% (conventional meat), 43% (raw meat) and 36% (vegan). Significant evidence indicates that raw meat diets are often associated with dietary hazards, including nutritional deficiencies and imbalances, and pathogens. Accordingly, the pooled evidence to date indicates that the healthiest and least hazardous dietary choices for dogs, are nutritionally sound vegan diets.

I am a Singularitarian because I have some small appreciation of how utterly, finally, absolutely impossible it is to think like someone even a little tiny bit smarter than you are.  I know that we are all missing the obvious, every day.  There are no hard problems, only problems that are hard to a certain level of intelligence.  Move the smallest bit upwards, and some problems will suddenly move from "impossible" to "obvious".  Move a substantial degree upwards, and all of them will become obvious.  Move a huge distance upwards
I've never been through the Singularity.  I've never been to the Transcend.  I just staked out an area of the Low Beyond.  This page is devoted to communicating a sense of awe that comes from personal experience, and is, therefore, merely human

At this point it is customary to speculate about how one goes about eating, drinking, walking around.  People state that they are unwilling to give up physical reality, worry about whether or not they will have sufficient computational power to simulate a hedonistic world of their wildest desires, and so on and so on ad nauseam.  Even Vinge himself, discoverer of the Singularity, has gone on record as wondering whether one's true self would be diluted by Transcendence

Don't describe Life after Singularity in glowing terms.  Don't describe it at all.  I think the all-time low point in predicting the future came in the few brief paragraphs of Unbounding the Future that I read, when they described a pedestrian being run over and his hand miraculously healing.  That's ridiculous.  Pedestrian?  Run over?  Hand?  Cars in a nanotech world?  Why not just have a bunch of apes describe the ease of getting bananas with a human mind
Leave the problems of transhumanity to the transhumans.  Our chances of getting anything right are the same as a fish designing a working airplane out of algae and pebbles
