You're Not Burnt Out. You're Existentially Starving. - Neil Thanedar

📝 Analizzato 2025-12-22

  • Sto facendo l'astronauta - faccio roba figa
  • La connessione colpa/comfort è verissima

→ Collegato a propositi 2026: pause artistiche = nutrire significato, non "staccare"

This is the most effective way: to let the youthful soul look back on life with the question, ‘What have you up to now truly loved, what has drawn your soul upward, mastered it and blessed it too?’… for your true being lies not deeply hidden within you, but an infinite height above you, or at least above that which you commonly take to be yourself.“ — Friedrich Nietzsche, Untimely Meditations, 1874
Nihilists get both Nietzsche and YOLO wrong. Neither mean that you give up. Instead, both mean that your efforts are everything.

Non-verbal, blurry thinking is faster and can search in a broader way, but it is more error-prone than verbal thought.

Self-Coaching Tool: The Pyramid of Logical Levels by Robert Dilts
Self-Coaching Tool: The Pyramid of Logical Levels by Robert Dilts
A simple framework that will help you to transform your life
You are a Ghost in the Shell. Consider any goals related to the physical changes in the body, such as getting in shape, to also be at this level.
So the Level of Environment is normally the level where people want to see change.
Getting fit. Moving to the city that we think is the best for our growth. Developing relationships that give us fulfillment and a sense of connection. Building a career that gives us meaning, money, and freedom.
The language you apply to yourself The language you apply to the world
your reality is what you think it is.
The Law of Attraction is a philosophy that suggests that positive thoughts bring positive results into a person’s life, while negative thoughts bring negative outcomes.
You don’t experience reality. However, what you DO experience is your own thoughts.
Your thoughts elicit your emotions. Driven by your emotions you make decisions and take action.
Hard Skills (aka Technical skills) Soft Skills (aka Foundational/Human/Transferrable Skills)
Self-awareness is of absolute importance. It’s important to understand what skills you have
Awareness of your Skill Gap will drive your Skill Acquisition Strategy.
Thinking that you know how the world works is the first indication of ignorance.
The map is not the territory.
Everything you know as truth is true only for you.
Believe in your map long enough and your map will become the territory.
You find time for everything you find important. If you are not doing it, it is just not important enough to be prioritized.
The Level of Beliefs is the level where a lot of coaching work is taking place.
No one cared about you before you arrived here, and 3 generations after you are gone no one will.
The only meaning of life that you can have is the one that you generate for yourself.
There is nothing noble about shrinking and not living your life squeezing it like a lemon to the last drop, taking your absolute maximum out of it, realizing your full potential as a human, and arriving to the point of your death as a Fearless Being with zero regrets about how this life was lived.
It is only through answering our calling that we can fulfill our Life’s Mission.
psychology research claims that only 5% of what we do is conscious. Everything else happens in the background

Luxury goods are special: they are scarce and expensive, and they earn us status with some folks because it shows that we paid more than we needed to. Luxury isn’t about quality, suitability …
Luxury is a marker that we can afford to do something others might consider wasteful.

Living intentionally in a world of distraction.
I've written at length about how I manage my digital consumption, from turning off notifications to forgoing social media entirely. The underlying premise here is that if you're trying to lose weight, you shouldn't carry cookies around in your pockets. And my phone is the bag of cookies in this metaphor.

My high school teacher in 2004 accused me of plagiarizing from Wikipedia because my research paper looked "too polished" for something typed on a keyboard instead of handwritten. Twenty years later, HN commenters see clean prose and assume LLM slop. Same discomfort, different decade, identical pattern: people resist leverage they haven't internalized yet.
use AI tools the way I used spell-check, grammar tools, and search engines before them—as cognitive leverage, not cognitive replacement.

“You have 18 months” - by Derek Thompson - The Argument
The real deadline isn’t when AI outsmarts us — it’s when we stop using our own minds.
the ability to sit patiently with a group of barely connected or disconnected ideas that allows a thinker to braid them together into something that is combinatorially new
The problem of the next 18 months isn’t AI disemploying all workers, or students losing competition after competition to nonhuman agents. The problem is whether we will degrade our own capabilities in the presence of new machines. We are so fixated on how technology will outskill us that we miss the many ways that we can deskill ourselves.

That said, total abstinence is not the solution. ChatGPT is here to stay. Just like most advancements in technology are. As a child of the 21st Century, you’ll need to learn to utilize this new tool in a manner that aids you, not hinders you. More importantly, not hinder the future you.

If this post is appearing, it means I’ve succumbed to cancer or one of its side effects. Please don’t feel sad for me. I’ve had a life filled with love, great experiences and wonderful career opportunities. Despite my demise at a relatively young age, I consider myself beyond fortunate. I’m hoping that, under the tree in front of our little Philadelphia rowhome, my wife Elaine will place a stone tablet inscribed with my name, and the year I was born and died.

The Scam Called “You Don't Have to Remember Anything”
The Scam Called “You Don't Have to Remember Anything”
Debunking the myth that search engines and AI eliminate the need for memory. Building deep knowledge through active learning remains essential for critical thinking, despite promises of instant information access.
To find what you need online, you require a solid general education and, above all, prior knowledge in the area related to your search
Culturally, it is increasingly the case that the first step is to go online, search for the a desired end result of a thinking process instead of engaging in learning
We detrain ourselves out of the ability to access the quality of the information and turn it into actual knowledge
We need a fully developed mental map of the subject in order to derive value from the results of an internet search
If you can’t produce a comprehensive answer with confidence and on the whim the second you read the question, you don’t have the sufficient background knowledge
Assuming that you have no comprehensive knowledge in health and fitness, terms like “aerobic capacity” or “core stability” only activate some superficial level associations
